Age Compliance Features for UK Online Safety Act

I’d like to suggest a critical enhancement to help platforms using BuddyBoss comply with the UK Online Safety Act, which came into full effect on 25 July 2025.

Under this legislation, platforms accessible to UK users—especially those with user-generated content or community features—are now legally required to implement highly effective age assurance measures to protect children from harmful or age-inappropriate content

Suggested Improvements:

  1. Age Verification on Registration

    • Enforce minimum age (e.g., 16+) during account creation.
    • Use robust age assurance methods (e.g., date of birth validation, biometric estimation, or ID checks).
  2. Ongoing Age Monitoring

    • Prevent users from changing their date of birth to bypass restrictions.
    • Lock or flag accounts that fall below the minimum age threshold.
  3. Content Access Controls

    • Allow site admins to restrict access to certain groups, forums, or content based on verified age.
    • Provide tools to configure age-appropriate experiences.
  4. Compliance Reporting

    • Include admin-side tools to log and report age verification status.
    • Offer integration options for third-party age assurance providers.

These features would help BuddyBoss-powered platforms meet the UK’s legal obligations and avoid penalties of up to £18 million or 10% of global revenue for non-compliance

Thanks for considering this important update to support safer online communities
